After the success of QHY5 guiding camera(2006-2012), QHYCCD released the new generation Guide/Planetary Camera QHY5-II. QHY5-II series camera improved the transfer speed of USB. It can get the USB2.0 transfer limiation up to 39MByte/s and 30FPS@1280*1024 or 1280*960 in the modern computers. With the new hardware/firmware construction, QHY5-II series improved the performance in short exposure. The banding issue on QHY5 in short exposure due to the computer CPU busy will never happen..
QHY5-II use 1.25inch style eyepiece shape design. It is very idea for the low weight guide setup. With the location ring it can get the confocal with the eyepiece. It is very tight but still powerful. Improved thermal design can lead the heat of CMOS sensor to the metal case quickly.
The QHY5-II supply WDM drivers. It means you can use it as a ultra high performance webcam for video chart or video livebroad cast. You can show the realtime astronomy scene to your friends with this camera.
Changes applied to the new line are thin, 1,25" housing (like SX Lodestar or SBIG ST-i), faster data transfer and fixed banding artifacts at short exposures. ST4 and USB ports are still there.
The whole line is based on Aptina/Micron cheap CMOS sensors. They aren't state-of-the-art sensors, but they are cheap, so QHY should keep the low prices QHY5 has now. New camera - QHY5P-II is third (after DMK72 and Lucky Cam) to offer MT9P031 - a sensor with big amount of small pixels. The mono version has quite good sensitivity (QE), but still you have to look out for the rolling shutter. Good for "low resolution" solar and lunar imaging, but on the web you will also see some planetary images done with DMK72 operation on a small and fast ROI mode.
The 10 and 14 mpix color cameras use CMOS sensors with extremely small pixels (around 1 micron). Those are used only for microscope cameras. Aside of cameras - the software needs updates too. It would be good if those cameras would be fully supported by SharpCap or even FireCapture by one of generic interfaces.
QHY 5-II Mono uses the 1/2 inch Aptina MT9M034 sensor, with 1.3 megapixels astro ccd imager. The 1280x1024 pixel array of 5.2um pixels are capable of 30 frames per second at full resolution. As a member of the QHY5-II series, introduces the 1.25 inch (eyepiece size) form factor and the standard ST-4 Opto-isolated guide port. The camera uses a single USB port for camera control and power to provide simplicity and ease of use. The camera comes standard with an adapter to for 1.25 filters making it ideal for Planetary imaging as well. The USB communication port has been updated to take advantage of the full down load speed and to eliminate noise that had been caused by the USB port in the past. This camera is an extraordinary camera for both auto guiding and Planetary photography at a very attractive price point. Camera comes with Parfocal adjustment ring, USB and guide cable.
